Assignment Details
- To manage and coordinate the design development of the separate elements
- To monitor the project through design, manufacture and delivery to site
- Negotiate and engage site installation company
- Review and agree on site installation programme, lifting and access requirements
- To closely manage the installation process to completion and handover
- Format, issue and manage all Health and Safety project documentation
Project Challenges
- We initially discovered tolerance issues with the primary steel frame. We therefore initiated a topographical survey to pass to the design team
- From this information, we communicated workable tolerances with the MC
- The design team designed special concealed brackets to allow the Aerofoil profile to the south to the partially hung from the curved steel frame
- The Fins to the west were required to an exact fit around the existing terracotta cladding and curtain walling frames to the west elevation
- The design team therefore designed bespoke Fin skeletons frame to suit the as built structure
- The installation was completed piece meal to suit to developing site programme
- We developed the onsite Method Statement to maximize efficiency and speed of installation with strict safety controls at all times
- The building was relatively small considering the completed of the facade finished, but we successfully managed all on site activities by engaging in regular face to face liaison with the Main Contractor
Project Results
- • Despite changes with the steel frame and associated façade materials, through detailed on site information and careful design development the products fit perfectly on the building
- All items were installed within the agreed programme periods
- Good design liaison with the Project Architect has led to ongoing future profitable projects for our client
- The final installation delivers both an aesthetically pleasing and functional aspect to the external façade of this impressive building
